To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)

No, not the book. The movie. You can stream it from anywhere. If you've seen it in the past year or two, you know just how fabulous it is and, if you haven't, and you watch it again now, you have a marvelous treat coming. I shall not ruin it for you by telling you whether or not the trial comes out the same way as in the book, nor whether the endings are the same, nor whether Harper Lee had Gregory Peck in mind when she wrote the book because he really looked like Atticus Finch, nor whether you can picture Gregory Peck in any way other than as Atticus Finch (unless you think his best role was in the Guns of Navarone). Suffice it to say that Horton Foote's screenplay is a good as it gets and his incisive slicing of the human character is even better.
