Pride is a MUST movie. Putting everything else aside and any suggestion that it might be seen as sappy (a characterization that our film panel rejects), Pride tells a story as powerful as Milk, and underscores that we in the United States are no more the center of the world today than San Francisco was in 1980s with the dawn of the scourge of AIDS. Beautifully shot, beautifully acted, on this 50th anniversary of Selma, this is a most fitting and most compelling reminder of just how universal is the struggle for civil rights and human rights. And for those who have seen the Wire, the casting of one actor in Pride tells us just how great is the casting in the Wire. Okay, it is Dominic West.
