Deadwood (Season 1: Episode 1)

It has been promised that Deadwood is the best series ever! Better even than the Wire. Episode 1 does not confirm that view, but it should not deter one from continuing on, even if one has no clue about much of what happens or who is who in Episode 1 (although it's not difficult to spot the actor who played the principal in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and we shall say no more about him). Unlike the Wire, you don't have to watch Episode 1 3+ times before going on. Much of the scenery could have been taken straight from Paint Your Wagon, but alas, there is no music or singing. There is a lot of what some might say is foul language. Shakespearean drama is not to be judged from Scene 1 of Act 1. And with that, on with Deadwood.

PS: Happy Valley (whose second season sadly has come to an end) has a short and unconcerting intro music theme, unlike for example, Orange Is the New Black, which is unduly long and annoying. Deadwood could be shorter, but it's way better than Orange Is the New Black. Given that these are all HBO shows, they should just use the theme from Curb Your Enthusiasm.
