5G

True 5G connectivity will be rolling out this year in certain places and should be totally rolled out all over at some point in 2019. It is said to have several advantages over 3G and 4G in terms of speed and ubiquity and related functionality, especially if you stream to your phone. To take advantage of 5G connectivity, you will need a 5G phone. Right now, there are one or two true 5G phones available, and several advertising to be 5G compatible but they are not true 5G phones. Being totally happy with my Samsung Galaxy S5, and not looking for a new phone (indeed, I have an extra S5 in the closet should my current S5 bite the dust), this is not a matter I'm paying much attention to (for now at least). That said, if you are looking for a new phone, you might want to be sure it is a true 5G phone and you might want to wait until there are more such phones available. It was said Apple was not in a rush to bring out a 5G phone, but apparently, it has switched course and will be bringing one out in a timely fashion.
