Every New Year's day for the past several years, we have brought you a gift from Playing for Change of a few minutes to just sit back, listen, and enjoy the good feeling. That gift appears below as Gift 1. Gift 2 is also a Playing for Change release, brought to our attention several years ago by a reader. Gift 3 is just a favorite song of ours, best played at high volume and most enjoyed by dancing along with it, which has been featured on this blog a few times. Enjoy! To tie a bow on the year's music, here is a listing of the Best Songs of 2025 according to the failing NYT.
Obviously, things did not turn out on the political front as sane people wished they would have. Let's hope that this country will repudiate and recover from the malignant forces that have invaded our body politic. While the Supreme Court and Congress have abdicated the roles the Founders and the constitution had set for them, it is still possible that the incompetence of the administration will lead to its demise and prevent it from achieving its anti-democratic, selfish, self-centered, anti-scientific, mean-spirited, nihilistic, narcissistic, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, corrupt, dangerous, and greed-driven goals. For all of us who would like to return to the America we knew, we bring you Gift 4 from a Ukrainian living in Santa Barbara. And, finally, in the spirit of unbridled optimism (e.g., that the Eagles will return to the Super Bowl where they belong and the Phillies to the World Series where they belong), Gift 5 celebrates having emerged from the winter solstice yet again, and is a fitting song to herald any new beginning.
