Sardines

Sardines are inexpensive and, unlike many other foods this day, are readily available on your grocer's shelf (they come in tins in various varieties as you can see below from Whole Foods). Here are the ways to serve them that I like the most and have found guests have liked the most: Straight out of the can; on a cracker with or without mustard or mixed with mayo, salt & pepper; sauté in oil, garlic, onions, and tomato with a bit of lemon juice, salt, and pepper; tossed into a salad or added to a pasta; on a sandwich with cream cheese and a thin slice of red onion; stuffed in a pepper; mashed and spread on a toasted bagel schmeared in cream cheese; as sardine tacos; in a dip, with spinach & artichoke; or dipped in hummus.
