It is astounding that the so-called brilliant commentators cannot figure out why Manafort blew-up his plea agreement with Mueller by lying, and that they are unanimous in calling him stupid for doing so. This is not difficult. By truthfully cooperating with Mueller, Manafort faces reprisals from the Russians whom he served and were enriched by, and whom he would have to implicate if he told Mueller the truth. What can Mueller do to Manafort? He can jail him, but not his wife or family. What can the Russians do? Take a guess! If you're stumped, likely Manafort, Manafort's wife, and Manafort's family are not. Put another way, while Manafort might not get a pardon from Trump, what Manafort does know is that Trump would do nothing to retaliate against the Russians poisoning Manafort's family.
