It is been reported that, when one signs into one's Amazon account from a second computer (e.g., a spouse's computer), Amazon does not recognize that computer and sends what it calls an OTP code to the account holder's email address. While all banks and many other websites do this when it detects a login from a device it does not recognize, once done, it will continue to recognize that device and stop doing such a 2-step verification. But not Amazon. It somehow puts blinders on and refuses to recognize that other device. This might also be a problem when someone buys a new computer. We do not know how widespread this issue is, but we have protested loudly and strongly to Amazon, albeit to no avail. It is difficult, and so we will not try, to describe the idiocy of the Amazon reps', including two supervisors (what Amazon calls "team leaders"), attempts to "explain" the matter. We have been assured that the matter has been escalated, but we have little confidence anything will be done. BTW, clearing one's cache or cookies or other historical data viz Amazon does not solve the problem; nor will Amazon allow for an alternative email address notification so that the OTP code might actually be sent to the person trying to access Amazon; nor does Amazon give an option to send the OTP code by text so one could put in the other's cellphone number. Sometimes it's just not worth getting up in the morning.
