Tip of the week: Skip the screen protector and use a case

Plenty of us protect our smartphones with
cases. Screen protectors are another popular accessory, but I’m not a
fan. Here’s why:

- Installing
a screen protector increases the screen reflectance, which makes the
image look poor in ambient light. So if you buy a fancy smartphone
with a nice, bright screen, like a iPhone 11 Pro or a Galaxy Note
10, a screen protector immediately downgrades the screen.
- For
most people, a good phone case is sufficient. By design, a case is
slightly taller than the phone’s body, making direct impact to the
screen less likely in the event of a drop.
- Modern
smartphones have very tough glass. Screen protectors just feel like
overkill for most people, unless you are someone who is very clumsy
with a phone. Just make it a habit to keep your house keys and
smartphone in separate pockets.
