Whenever I cook, I am hounded for my recipe or other secret as to how the meal came out to be so delicious. Here's the secret: Forget the recipe, forget the timer, experiment, ad-lib, and do what feels right. In other words, take a walk on the wild side. This article from the WSJ addresses the timer issue. It also, at least inferentially, suggests that waiting for an oven to reach a specified pre-heating level is unnecessary and a waste of energy and money.
