The US Open is being played at Pinehurst No. 2, an iconic golf course. The 5th hole was a Par 4 that has since been converted into and now plays as a Par 5. When it was a Par 4, it was the toughest fair Par 4 one former phenom had ever seen. At the time, he had a 3 handicap and played it 8 times over 2 days (4 and 5 looped each other and he had the last tee time for the day), from the regular men's tees, and never did better than double bogey. Now, here's the kicker: The 5th hole now plays as the easiest hole. That said, the Pinehurst complex has 7 fantastic courses, wonderful places to stay, is close to a plethora of other great courses, and (unless everything has changed) is affordable and tee times are easy to get, even for No. 2. If you're a golfer, by all means go. It also is a great place to retire.
