Storm Clouds Gathering Over MLB

Major League Baseball (MLB) sent a confidential 34-page memo to team owners and executives outlining operational rules for a looming off-season lockout, which is expected if a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is not reached before the current one expires on December 1, 2026. There is enormous amount of money at stake (measured in the billions) and other issues loom, including two interesting possible rule changes: (i) reverting back to a 154 game regular the way it always had been and how God intended it; and (ii) a bizarre post-season tweak called “pick your opponent” where  higher-seeded teams would have the unique advantage of choosing their match-ups rather than following a traditional fixed bracket. If a new CBA is not reached the consequences for the players, fans, owners, and MLB will be substantial. Some might say the author of this post is paranoid. Others might say, to quote Andy Grove (co-founder of Intel), when it comes to protecting one's institutions, only the paranoid survive.
