Many pastas will show a number, such as Linguini No. 7 or Linguini No. 13. There is no uniform system as to this numbering across brands. Many people think that the numbers shown on the pasta packaging are the thickness or size of the pasta, but, as I've tried to explain on many occasions, this sometimes is but is not always the case. Indeed, the numbers shown on the various pastas often are only code numbers that pasta producers give to their products every time they create a new form of pasta. So, stop worrying about numbers, and Buon appetito!
