Butt calls are a pain. They are easy to prevent at least on newer phones. The settings depend on the particular phone and model, but generally speaking, look under Settings/Display, where there will be options to turn off the display or, even better, set it to "accidental touch protection," which will automatically turn off the display while the phone is in a dark place, e.g., like in a pocket--a place from which many butt calls originate, as illustrated in this pic:
