While we remain committed to the soft duffle bag, because of how easily it stores in the overhead bin, if one is going with a hard suitcase, the "carry on closet" (which the NYT alerted us to) from Solgaard (and others) is worth a look-see. It's big advantage, especially on trips where you might be staying at a given place only a night or two, and don't want to spend time unpacking and repacking, is that it's its own closet (and doesn't cost more than luggage of equal quality, size, and materials).
