An occasional loyal reader sent in this article by George Will that sets out well the rule changes needed to save baseball from the increased speed of the pitches and the prevalence of the shift that have resulted in lower batting averages and fewer hits other than home runs and hence fewer plays. If this reader or Mr. Will had been watching PTI (which we strongly recommend taping every day), they would have known about these issues a couple of months ago.
