Two Airline Things

1. Given that most airlines do not give refunds for canceled flights, but will restore frequent flier miles, if you are doing a trip where you book one leg with cash and the other with frequent flier miles, the safer way to do it is to book the outgoing flight with cash and the return flight with frequent flier miles. No explanation would seem necessary, but it goes like this: Your more likely to have to change your return flight than your outgoing flight. Nor is there any reasonable excuse for the idiot who didn't follow this precept.

2. With air travel picking up much faster than airlines had predicted, they are changing their flight schedules with much frequency. If you still harbor the illusion that airlines are like your friend, get a dog. Many of these schedule changes are done to cancel out flights where people booked well ahead to take advantage of low fares being offered a while back, so that they then have to re-book at higher fares. Is this reasonable or fair or justified? Of course not. But we've learned that fighting city hall is a lot easier than fighting the airlines--although we do know people who have actually gotten refunds. You're better off just doing a private jet time-share leasing thing.
