We agree with our reader's pithy view that Mayday is "mildly amusing." We don't have anything of substance to add, and will say only that it's not the best or worst way to spend 1h50m. It's billed as a comedic, action, buddy drama, and stars Ryan Reynolds and, more importantly, Kenneth Branagh, whose performance made the movie better than it otherwise would have been. It's the story of an American ace pilot who is on a reconnaissance mission over Soviet territory that goes awry, forcing him to crash-land and survive in Russian wilderness while evading capture or rescue. Everyone I think will say it's better than Top Gun 2, and many will say it's better than Top Gun, and does not suffer, as Top Gun did, of having a contemporaneous love story having nothing to do with the core plot.
