The NYT and others in the MSM have headlines (e.g., as the NYT put it, "Ouster Pushes Justice Dept. Closer to the Cliff), stories, and opinion pieces as to how the latest Trump "thing" has pushed us further from democratic norms and closer to autocratic norms. News flash! We're past that point. Given the abdication of Congress, the Supreme Court, every executive department (especially DOJ), and institution after institution, there are cries of outrage and protests, but we are living now in an autocracy. I am not so pessimistic to say that clawing our way back is impossible. But for now, we are living in an autocracy, with no check on the corruption, power grabs, and corrosive forces that are ruling the day. [Note: Slightly revised version submitted to the failing NYT]
